Additional Information

The Legion publishes a monthly magazine in Aubagne called the Képi blanc. It covers the activities of each of the regiments and is probably the best source of current information about the modern Legion you will find. It has dozens of colour photos that illustrate what life is like there. It is written in French and includes articles that may seem lengthy if you can't speak the language, but the photo captions are easily read with the help of a dictionary. Photos are included in "Life in the French Foreign Legion" but they don't encompass the full range of what goes on in the Legion. They say a photo speaks a thousand words so you'll benefit from the additional comprehension this magazine provides. It is something I definitely would have ordered for myself before joining had I known how.

You can subscribe to it at the following address:

Képi blanc,
B.P. 78 - 13673,
Aubagne, France

Forms of payment are made out to: Foyer d'Entraide de la Légion Étrangčre. Single issues are only 22 francs plus shipping and handling. It cost me a total of 66 francs, 22 for the magazine and 44 for postage to have one issue sent from France to North America. If you want to get information about the magazine before sending payment, write them a short letter saying: Je cherche des renseignements pour souscrire ŕ la revue Képi blanc. Je voudrais que vous m'envoyer une liste des prix et une maničre pour la commander. If you just want to order the February, 1999 copy, for example, by sending payment outright you can say: Je voudrais commander la revue Képi blanc du Fevrier, 1999. Include a money order for at least 100 francs to cover all the costs. It might cost more this way but should guarantee delivery. A year's subscription from France to North America currently costs 380 francs to have it delivered via air mail, and 300 francs via surface. With a subscription I've so far received all copies from February through November, 2000.
